COVID-19 Clinical Trials

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that can cause illnesses such as the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). In 2019, a new coronavirus was identified as the cause of a disease outbreak that originated in China.

The virus is now known as the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease it causes is called coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic.

Researchers are in a race to find ways to prevent and end the spread of this virus. As the research community gets closer to finding answers, CNS Healthcare is seeking clinical trials volunteers. Identification of interested volunteers is crucial in speeding up enrollment in the trials that will provide answers and solutions. COVID-19 clinical trials, like those at CNS Healthcare, can help you explore new options. Interested in trying a new COVID-19 vaccine at no cost? More About COVID-19

COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly through close contact from person to person, including between people who are physically near each other (within about 6 feet). People who are infected but do not show symptoms can also spread the virus to others. We are still learning about how the virus spreads and the severity of illness it causes.

People who are older have a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19, and the risk increases with age. People who have existing chronic medical conditions also may have a higher risk of serious illness. Certain medical conditions that increase the risk of serious illness from COVID-19 include:

  • Serious heart diseases, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathy
  • Cancer
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Obesity or severe obesity
  • Smoking
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Weakened immune system from solid organ transplants

The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. You can take steps to slow the spread.

  • Stay at least 6 feet away from others whenever possible. This is very important in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a mask when around others. This helps reduce the risk of spread both by close contact and by airborne transmission.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid crowded indoor spaces and ensure indoor spaces are properly ventilated by bringing in outdoor air as much as possible. In general, being outdoors and in spaces with good ventilation reduces the risk of exposure to infectious respiratory droplets.
  • Stay home and isolate from others when sick.
  • Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.

Signs & Symptoms

COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Infected people have had a wide range of symptoms reported – from mild symptoms to severe illness. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
